We want our guests to feel at home while staying with us; to get a good nights sleep and enjoy a delicious breakfast or a drink in our lounge while browsing the books in our library. Share your stories with others either those who are accompanying you in the lounge or have them published on our website for everyone to enjoy.
OUR ROOMS
We have 10 bedrooms who are small but comfortable and cozy. Interiors are inspired by the sea and modern design is mixed with the old. We have the all natural COCO-mat beds for our guests to get a good nights sleep.

Explore the diverse landscape of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula; mountains, glaciers, beaches and the islands of Breidafjordur Bay. Enjoy good food in Stykkisholmur, visit musuems, galleries or just walk around the old town which is like a living museum. Take a look around the harbour and go on a boat tour around the bay.

THE HOTEL
“Hotel Egilsen is easy to find, being one of the older and more distinctive buildings on the town’s picturesque harbour—in fact, it’s the second-oldest building in Stykkishólmur, and will soon celebrate its 150th birthday.Its curved roof and cheery red exterior hold an immaculately renovated modern boutique hotel, complete with wooden powder-blue walls, artfully mismatched furniture, and cosy touches such as Vík Prjónsdóttir blankets and a library of Nordic folk tales and maritime fiction. ”
The old stark red house stands by the harbor in Stykkishólmur, a small fishing town by the beautiful Breiðafjörður with it´s numerous islands. The house was originally built in 1867 by a prominent businessman as a private residence but was renovated and opened as a family run boutique hotel in 2012. The small hotel preserves its classic heritage while enhancing it with the best of modern design where the guest lounge is the heart of the hotel. There, our guests can relax with a drink, mingle with locals and other guests or browse through the small library. At our doorsteps are the towns three museums, it´s restaurants and galleries as well as the harbour.

SNAEFELLSNES

The Snaefellsnes peninsula it is the first community in Europe to get the EarthCheck environmental certification confirming that the region is an environmentally conscious community that systematically strives for improvements in environmental issues in the spirit of sustainable work practices. Stykkisholmur is operated in as environmental friendly way as possible continually measuring various environmental indicators. The town was also the first municipality in Iceland to start fully sorting its waste as well as the first town in Iceland to receive the prestigious Blue flag eco-label for its harbour. In 2015 Stykkisholmur became a plastic bag free community and now the aim is for all of Snaefellsnes to be plastic bag free.
Our Stories and Your Story
Iceland is a nation of storytellers and we value a good story. Therefore, we set up a small library for our guests to enjoy and also to inspire them to write one to share with other guests. We treat our storytellers well offering them a discount on their stay. The stories are published here on our website and are a pleasure to read.
